Chuck a snag on the barbie, crack a tinnie and get ready for a belly laugh with Tropi c Sun Theatre’s latest production 3 Blokes & Their Barbies. Directed by Karen Gibb, this hilarious exploration of the pastime of barbecuing will give you a sneak peek into the popular tradition of Aussie men burning meat on the grill while espousing backyard wisdom. As you enter the sacred domain of these blokes and their barbies, you’ll learn more about their private world where sausages are supreme (not pizza), beer is the answer to the meaning of life, and the love of a good woman will never compare to a Sunday spent fishing in the tinnie. Join them for some l aughs, a cold beer, backyard wisdom, the meaning of life and the rules and regulations of the Aussie barbecue. It’s a ripping good time and a great way for newcomers to test out Townsville’s arts scene. Cast Jeremy Cheetham, Ron Pulman and Mark Reed sport some of the best mullets in Townsville for this production. The camaraderie between the three actors shines through as they bounce off each other, singing and dancing across the stage in pluggers and flannelette shirts. All three are in fine voice with some memorable “blokey” adaptations of songs like Centrefold, Hey Big Spender and Barbara Ann. 3 Blokes and Their Barbies is a fun night out for blokes and sheilas – most of the big laughs during the night came from the female section of the audience. It’s also a special and endearing insight into the mind of the beast that is the Australian man. Townsville Bulletin - REVIEW – JENNY O’Reilly
