Thanks to the generous support of Peabody Energy the Mackay Region 2010 Festival of Arts will literally fire up Mackay when the Pyrophone Juggernaut comes to town. The Pyrophone is based on a 250-year-old musical organ that uses propane gas instead of compressed air to play. This fire fuelled organ will erupt as international performance artists and musicians, ready to ignite and inspire, clamber in a tightly choreographed percussive spectacle.
The 10 metre high Pyrophone is the largest multi-octave fire organ in the world. Conjuring up images of Jules Verne machines with its fantastic appearance it is fuelled by natural gas and made entirely from reclaimed metal and recycled car components. Five artists will create an awe-inspiring symphony ranging from deep growls to choral-sounding timbres with industrial drums, acoustic bells and spectacular 15 metre high flames.
To make this evening even more memorable, the Bobcat Ballet will return, thanks to the support of Bluescope Lysaght. This show promises bobcats, mini excavators and bigger machines, louder music and more complicated choreography as the region’s own operators display their virtuoso skills under the direction of Angela Chaplin. Other sounds and sights in store include a smoking-hot dance by Bundjalong Kunjiel, Mackay North Hi gh School’s 100-strong Marchi ng Band will strut their stuff and multi instrumentalist Steven Rosenberg will play the conch shell.
Topped off with a ride past by Mackay’s car enthusiasts’ superb cars and hotrods, this will be a night the whole family can enjoy, including a fantastic fireworks display. After the performance on the main arena, stick around and experience the fiery African sounds of Afrodi sa. Have a dance, grab a drink and enjoy opening night under the stars.
Food, drinks and licensed area will be available on site.
